Business ManagerAbout the roleWe’re looking for a Business Manager to own the operational backbone of LiteLLM. You’ll make sure our finances are accurate, our people are supported, and important administrative, legal, and operational work gets handled with urgency.This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in knowing where every dollar went, notices when something is wrong, and follows through until it is fixed. Finance and bookkeeping will be the foundation of the role, with additional ownership across people operations, office management, recruiting coordination, and executive operations.You do not need to be a CFO, CPA, lawyer, or HR executive. You do need to understand what you know, recognize what you don’t, and exercise good judgment about when to bring in an expert. You’ll work with external accountants, legal counsel, and other specialists, but you will remain accountable for the quality and completion of the work.What you’ll ownFinance and accounting operationsMaintain accurate books and ensure every transaction is properly categorized and reconciledManage accounts payable, reimbursements, payroll coordination, invoicing, and financial recordsKnow where the company’s money is going and quickly investigate discrepanciesMaintain our financial model with support from fractional finance experts when neededCoordinate with our outsourced accounting firm, CPA, and tax advisorsPrepare reliable financial information for the founders and help them understand cash, spend, and tradeoffsBuild lightweight controls and processes that keep the company compliant without slowing it downPeople operationsOwn day-to-day HR administration, including onboarding, offboarding, payroll, benefits, and employee recordsOperate systems such as Rippling, Gusto, or similar platformsMake sure employees receive timely, thoughtful support when they have questions or problemsCoordinate with external experts on compensation, compliance, and employment mattersHelp introduce more structured people programs as the company growsLegal and business operationsCoordinate contracts, insurance, registrations, compliance deadlines, and other corporate administrationDevelop sound judgment about what can be handled internally and what should be routed to legal counselWork effectively with lawyers while managing cost and avoiding unnecessary riskMaintain organized records and ensure important deadlines and commitments do not get missedApproach AI-generated legal or financial guidance cautiously and verify important decisions with qualified expertsOffice and executive operationsHelp manage the office and create an environment where the team can do its best workSupport the founders with high-priority administrative and operational projectsCoordinate vendors, events, scheduling, travel, and other company needsHelp with recruiting coordination and candidate experience when neededIdentify operational gaps and take ownership without waiting for detailed instructionsWhat we’re looking forExperience in finance, accounting, bookkeeping, or business operations, ideally followed by work at an early-stage technology companyHands-on experience with payroll and HR administrationExperience with at least one accounting system, such as QuickBooks, Xero, or NetSuiteExperience with a people platform such as Rippling, Gusto, or WorkdayExceptional attention to detail—you are the kind of person who will investigate a $5 discrepancyA strong sense of urgency and a low tolerance for important tasks being droppedGood judgment about when to solve something yourself and when to involve a CPA, lawyer, or other specialistA genuine desire to support people and make the company work better for themCuriosity and the ability to learn unfamiliar areas quicklyStrong prioritization skills: you ask how important a problem is, what it will cost, and what tradeoffs the company is willing to makeComfort working across finance, HR, legal coordination, office management, and executive operationsYou may be a particularly good fit ifYou began your career in finance or accounting and later moved into broader startup operationsYou are currently an exceptional executive assistant, finance manager, or operations lead who has naturally become the person everyone relies onYou care about both the numbers and the people behind themYou enjoy being the “squeaky wheel” who makes sure work actually gets completedYou want broad ownership inside a young company and are willing to stay close to the detailsWhat success looks likeOur books are accurate, current, and explainableLeadership has a reliable view of cash, spending, and financial tradeoffsPayroll, benefits, invoices, and compliance deadlines are handled correctly and on timeEmployees know where to go for operational help and trust that their questions will be resolvedExternal accountants, lawyers, and consultants are used thoughtfully, while ownership remains internalImportant work does not fall through the cracks
